Kioni has been doing Kumon Reading for three months, we are proud of what she can do. She is reading simple sentences, sounding out words that she does not reconize and writing alphabets. We are surprised how much she can do at age 2 and a half years old! (Her birthday is January 12.) Though she loves doing Kumon, there are times when she just won't pay attention to what she is doing, that is the toughest time for Dan and I, because when she won't sit still, there is no way we can do any writing and reading when she is fooling around. So we would just stop and continue at a a later time. We do not want to force her to do it, FUN is the most important thing, keeping the interest is our prime goal, not learning the material.
At any rate, we are completly satisfied at her progress. The Kumon method works, I think the key is parent involvement. Kioni loves to do Kumon with mommy, since most of the time, it is daddy who does Kumon with her. Kioni is good at reading, and she starts to be able to count pretty well also, so we will enroll her in Kumon Math once we get to the Philippines, there are Kumon centers right down the street from where we will live in Cebu!
Below is a sample page of what she is doing right now, it concentrates on Consonant Combinations & Vowel Sounds. She will trace the alphabets and then say the word, then she writes the alphabets out on her own at the end.
